On Sunday 12th May 2013 Listry U-12 boys and girls played
Moyvane in the first round of the second phase of the Co.league.The
game was played in Allman park and both teams played great football and
kept us all entertained to the very end.
Trainers Jeremy Wrenn,Mike Dwyer and Keith O’Donnell have used
every player on the panel, always have a different starting 11 and
rotate the captain. This is what the go-games are all about, game time
experience and being part of the Listry panel.
Captain on Sunday was our super ‘keeper Micheal Buckley.Micheal
had a fine game and always found a Listry player with his kick outs.
Aileen O’Leary had to be picked after a great display at training last
Tuesday.Aileen is a great defender and gets the ball out of danger at
the first opportunity.Beside Aileen in the full back line was Dylan
Brennan.Dylan played with an injured finger and can be very proud of
his display. You have a great left foot Dylan and great battling
qualities(look after that finger).Micheal Keane played at half-back and
not only defended but attacked down the wing at every opportunity.
Micheal is great to block down a kick and that is a great skill that
requires patience and timing.Seamus Giles was the other wing back and
is the Paudie Lynch(ask your father) of our team.A solid performer with
a great dummy and a uses the bounce of the ball to get out of trouble.
At mid-field we had Eoin O’Donnell and Mairead Lehane.Eoin played his
first game in mid-field and can be very pleased with his performance.A
nephew of Eugie O’Leary from Gneeveguilla,Eoin covered every blade of
grass and always kept an eye on his man.Mairead is a consistant
performer, gives every last ounce of energy she has and battles for
every ball.Killian Broderick and Ruairi Murphy made up a lively half-
forward line.Killian was the target for Micheal Buckley’s kick-out and
this worked well with Killian delivering the ball quickly to the inside
line.Ruairi is a super footballer and had a fantastic game again. It’s
Ruairi’s first year U-12 and when he can control his tackling and keep
an eye for a team-mate in a better position he will be an even better
player.Joseph Courtney and James O’Dowd made up a powerful full forward
line.Joseph used his great strength to win possession and if he
couldn’t score himself he always passed the ball off.You picked up good
attacking positions Joseph and a bit of practice on the left foot and
left hand will give you a lot more scores in the future.James had a
fine game and showed great maturity for an U-10 player, taking on his
man and heading for goal every time.Your playing great James and
remember if you make a run you’ll get the pass.Aaron O’Shea is another
player that is strong in the air and has a great eye for the target.
Aaron works very hard to win the ball and his defending is improving
all the time.Aaron O’Donoghue is great to snap up the breaking ball,a
tigerish defender and very brave.Niamh Broderick was introduced at mid-
field and got into the action straight away, showing good stamina and
battling qualities.Joe Clifford was playing his first game for Listry u-
12s and can be very pleased with his display.Joe is a good forward and
very accurate kicker of the ball.Welcome to the squad Joe you are a
welcome boost.Jack O’Leary is a powerful player,strong,aggressive and
always gives 100 per cent .You skill level is improving all the time
Jack. Missing on the night were Ciara Tangney and Ronan Buchanan, two
great players and we look forward to having them back next week when we
take on Duagh at Allman Park,Sun-7pm
