On Wed.14th August 2013 Listry/Keel U-16s football team will contest the Co.league final in Farranfore at 7pm.The team is coached by Derry Ahearn, Ian Foley, Mike Cooper and Brian McCarthy. This team has shown huge improvement in their play, good discipline and a great work ethic throughout the field.I hope the parents will thank the coaches for their dedication to the team, it must be the only underage team in the Co. where none of the coaches have a son playing. The coaches are doing the job for the right reasons and they have built a fine team.
Listry/Keel had victories over Castlegregory, Cordal/Scart and Moyvane/Tarbert to secure a semi-final place against John Mitchels. John Mitchels had beaten Listry/Keel in the first round of the league and it was nice to get a victory over them in the semi-final.
Our U-16s play Beaufort in the final and like the Mitchels in the semi-final we lost to Beaufort in the league. Beaufort have a fine team and we will have to be at our best to win. Hopefully we will have plenty of support and encouragement to lift our boys.
Thank you to all our panel for their commitment to training and excellent behaviour on and off the pitch. Last week Listry held a football camp for national school kids and four of Listry/Keel U-16s helped with the coaching, Peadar Keane, Brandon O’Mahony, Niall O’Shea and Senan Wrenn. This showed a great maturity in our young players,a great love for our club and the parents can be proud of their fine sons.
So, let’s go to Farranfore, fly the flag and hope for the very important bit of luck on the night, good luck to all,
Murt Broderick
Chairman,Listry Juvenile GAA club.
