Listry u-12s made the trip to Templenoe on Sunday the 22nd of September, the weather was beautiful and the pitch in excellent condition. Listry travelled without 4 influential players, Ronan Buchanan and Dylan Brenan both injured and Michéal Keane and James O’ Dowd both away.
Listry started brightly and quickly rushed into a 3 point lead with Ruarí Murphy converting all 3 from play, the 3rd being a fine solo effort. The next score was a Templenoe goal followed by a quick point to leave Listry down by one point after 7 minutes.
Michéal Buckley and Mairéad Lehane started winning primary procession at midfield and played great football to bring the forwards into play. Aaron O’ Donoghue was a constant torn in the Templenoe defence being involved in every Listry attack.
Killian Broderick won a good kick out from Jack O’ Leary and played a diagonal ball to Mairéad Lehane. Mairéad found Aaron O’ Donoghue in space and Aaron then dodged and dummied the full back line of the Templenoe defence. He finished brilliantly to the back of the Templenoe net from an acute angle.
Ruarí Murphy then hit the back of the net 2 minutes later following a good move involving Joe Courtney who for the second week in a row, attacked well from half back.
Séamus Giles and Joe Courtney were driving out from defence and both Joe and Séamus scored goals from dangerous balls into the Templenoe square, which deceived the Templenoe goalie.
Killian Broderick kicked some good points from distance. He scored a great goal during Listrys sustained period of possession. Killian was unlucky with other effort, which narrowly went wide.
The Templenoe number 9 was starting to cause Listry problems and Mairéad Lehane was switched onto him. Mairéad did a great marking job on him and stopped his threat. Mairéad intercepted a quick kick out, she then soloed through and had a shot well saved from the Templenoe keeper. She scored from the rebound and was unlucky to have the goal ruled out. Aaron O’ Donoghue also had a goal ruled out after Séamus Giles was unluckily ruled to have thrown the ball.
Ciara Tangney was defending well and both she and Aileen O’ Leary had 3 block downs in the first half a great art to see for 11 and 12 year olds.
Listry went in at half time up 5-5 to 2-4.
Templenoe came out in the 2nd half with all guns blazing. They dominated the first 15 minutes. Séamus Giles, Ciara Tangney, Aileen O’ Leary, Joe Courtney and Joe Clifford defended tenaciously with some great blocks and clearing of goal mouth scrambles. A good move from Templenoe got their corner forward in a one on one situation with Jack O’ Leary, who produced what can only be described as an outstanding save. Jack threw himself to his left, getting a hand to the shot and pushing it around the right hand post.
Templenoe scored two more goals and kicked 4 unanswered points, leaving 4 points between the teams with 12 minutes to go.
The next Templenoe attack was a long punt towards the Listry goal, that Jack O’ Leary somehow managed to claw away from under the crossbar. He blocked the follow up shot and cleared his lines to Joe Clifford. Joe passed to Séamus Giles, Séamus found Ruarí Murphy who played a one-two with Killian Broderick. Ruarí then found Eoin O’Donnell in space and Eoin expertly dispatched low to the right hand side of the net. Aaron O’ Shea goaled with the next attack, this was following a good ball from the influential Killian Broderick. Michéal Buckley won the next kick out, showed great strength in holding off 2 players and kicking a great point from about 25 yards out on the right hand side.
Killian Broderick and Ruarí Murphy were starting to run the Templenoe defence ragged.
Darragh Murphy was introduced for Ruarí and Darragh won his first ball and was fouled, Darragh was unlucky with his free just clipping the outside of the upright.

A special mention to Aaron O’ Donoghue on giving a ‘man of the match’ performance. Aaron was a constant threat to Templenoe on the day. He won every ball and made intelligent use of it.
