On Sunday evening in Listry , the under twelve teams of Listry and Keel served up a game of high quality which was as good if not better than any gaelic , soccer or rugby match seen all weekend . Listry came out victors with a final score of 5-20 to 4-14 . We should be very proud of our young stars who performed with great heart and skill to overcome a strong Keel side .
Jack O’Leary started in goal again and was very solid . He made a few unbelievable point blank saves . His sister Aileen was back after a recent injury and proved her worth to the team with a strong defensive display . Joseph Courtney completed an excellent inside back line and as usual got a lot of clean ball and drove out from defence . Dylan Brennan and Aaron O’Donoghue were the half back line . Dylan collected a lot of ball and got great distance and accuracy with his clearance kicks . Aaron likes more to run out of defence and at one stage in the second half he got ball after ball after ball . He also got a few scores during this spell . Our midfield pairing was James O’Dowd and Niamh Broderick . James held the middle well and got a few scores in the second half when he moved forward . Niamh saw every inch of grass up and down the pitch all evening . She also got her name on the scoreboard . Micheal Keane is the ultimate new half forward as he travelled up and down the pitch defending , carrying ball and getting his own scores when the chance came up . Ruari Murphy was outstanding again and no doubt Keel will be glad not to be playing somebody as skilful as him every week . He ended up with with an impressive scoring tally . Near to goal we had another strong line with Joe Clifford and Aaron O’Shea . Joe is very nippy and difficult to stop once he gets the ball into his hands . He will be delighted with his scoring return on the evening . Aaron was a big reason why we won the game and also ended with a big scoring return . His duel with his opposite man in the second half was one of the highlights of the game . It is fair to say that on the night Listry had a stronger bench to choose from . Daire Murphy and Conor Crowley were very unlucky not to start . Conor came on and as usual he defended brilliantly . It is hard to believe he is still only under ten . He had one outstanding catch over his head . Daire came on up front and ran into space and kept his man on his toes throughout his time on the pitch . Aisling O’Callaghan came on up front in the first half and kept an impressive defender from making any impact while keeping an eye on her . Tallulah Belle Courtney and Kate Spillane are two more girls in the squad and it is great to see the improvement in them . Tallulah is very athletic and chased any ball that came near . Kate has only recently joined the squad and again was impressive when she came off the bench . Lastly we have two more under tens in Mason Courtney and Steven O’Brien enjoying their first year with the under twelves . Mason came on up front and fought hard for the ball when the chance was there . Steven also impressed off the bench and shows how strong the back up to the first team is .
Congratulations to everybody involved with the team on a great night – the supporters , the coaches but the especially the boys and girls themselves . Training on Tuesday 6-7 and final match of this section away to Kilgarvan next Sunday .
