On Sunday 8th June Listry U-12s played Kilgarvan in Listry. When the sides met in phase one of the Co.league it was a great game and we all looked forward to something similar.
Well we weren’t disappointed, both teams chased every ball and every attack was defended bravely. Listry were leading 3 point to 1 when Kilgarvan got a goal. Listry responded from the kick out and got a goal back. There was great football played by both teams , some great individual play and fantastic team scores. There were a lot of players picking up injuries in the first half and this was a result of the bravery shown by both teams in the tackle.Listry scored another goal and a point and 2 points from frees in the first half and Kilgarvan scored a point and 2 frees.Listry were leading at half time 2-6 to 1 – 4.
Both teams were glad of the break and continued where they left off, displaying all the skills of the game again in the second half. Kilgarvan tried hard to get scores and were unlucky to hit the upright and crossbar on several occasions.Kilgarvan scored 2 frees and Listry scored a free and put a great move together to score a goal.Kilgarvan never gave up and struck again with a point and 2 goals. Listry were not to be denied on this occasion and finished with free and a goal. The final score was Listry 4-8 Kilgarvan 3-7.This was a reversal of phase one and both teams and management must be congratulated on the skill level and attitude of the players.
The game was excellently refereed by Tom O Keeffe from Glenbeigh/Glencar.Every decision was explained to the players, time was given to kick outs, injuries, substitutes and free taking. An outstanding performance by an official in total control of his duties.
