On Sunday 7th April 2013 Listry U-12’s played their first Co.League game. It was a very cold evening with a gale force wind blowing in lispole. Listry played with the wind in the first half and played some great football. James O’Dowd(U-10) was outstanding in goal, quick off his line, strong under the dropping ball and always found a Listry player with his kick out.Aaron O’Donoghue (U-10) was tigerish in the full back line and always very brave in the tackle. Ciara Tangney was solid at full back and always well positioned to defend. Eoin O’Donnell completed a great full back line and his long clearing kicks turned defence to attack every time. Dylan Brennan at centre back had a great game and swept up a lot of ball across the half-back line, covering right and left. At centre field Seamus Giles and Ruairi Murphy were majestic, with great fielding and attacking at every opportunity. Ronan Buchanan and Killian Broderick made up a great half-forward line always looking for a way to link up with the inside line and took great scores when they found space. Our full-forward line of Aaron O’Shea (U-10) and Joseph Courtney are very strong players and played great football and tried for a score at every opportunity. At half-time Listry were ahead 4-8 to Lispole 2 goals. Facing into a gale force wind it was going to be a difficult second half .Listry introduced Aileen O’Leary in defence and Aileen didn’t put a foot wrong, intercepting and clearing the ball out of defence on numerous occasions. Jack O’Leary(U-10) came in at full forward and got stuck in straight away showing great strength and an appetite for the game. Listry continued the second half with some great use of the ball, thinking before passing and really played as a team.
Seamus stepped back to help out the defence, Ronan came to mid-field and Ruairi banged in the goals up front. Killian continued to work hard blocking and spraying the passses, Ciara. Eoin, Dylan at the back kept focused and our forwards kept scoring. Lispole came strong in the last 5 min.
but Listry had enough scores on the board and ran out winners in the end. Listry scored 5-6 in the second half, one point more than the first.
The final score was Lispole 4-8 Listry 9-14.Well done Listry on a great team performance. Listry were missing 4 great players, Mairead Lehane and Niamh Broderick were representing Listry in Scor , Micheal Buckley(cousin of Kerry star Johnny Buckley)was on holidays and Micheal Keane is recovering from an injury.
