Listry juvenile GAA club held its very first football camp from tue 6th to 9th August 2013.The camp was the brain child of coaching officer Colman O’Shea. The camp was designed for national school boys and girls. The idea of the camp was to focus on the skills of gaelic football and between the drills the kids would have lots of fun games.
Everything went according to plan and the roars of laughter around the pitch, proved the kids were learning and having the all important fun as well. Colman put a lot of preparation into the timetable and even organised some lunch-time fun for the kids while the coaches had a break. The lunch-time fun was excellent with egg and spoon races, three legged races, wheel-barrow races and the very popular tug-o-war was very exciting. Thank you Colman for the excellent coaching manual that was given to the coaches, each skill was simplified with games for all levels of ability. A full programme of events from 10am to 2pm meant all the kids and coaches went home happy and exhausted every day.
It takes a lot of coaches to run a camp and Colman put a great team of 18 coaches together. The coaching team of Colman O’Shea, Ann O’Brien, Jeremy Wrenn, Ger Foley, Anthony Kennedy, Aisling O’Leary, Ciara O’Shea, Peadar Keane, Noreen Clifford,Niall O’Shea, Sean O’Sullivan, Senan Wrenn, Brandon O’Mahony, John Courtney, Niamh Cronin, Joe Clifford and Tim Fitzgerald was a great mix of young, older, male and female coaches. Thank you to all the coaches who gave their time for the kids and the club.
The coaches looked very well in their specially commissioned shirts.
The final day of camp was a party day. Kerry senior footballers Jonathan Lyne and Brian Kelly attended, all 76 kids received a camp t- shirt and a goodie bag. A raffle was held to distribute prizes donated by our great sponsors and the great parents of Listry brought lots of home baking.
Listry are lucky to have great supporters and sponsors, Michael O’Sullivan Foodstore and Farm Supplies Beaufort bridge sponsored goodie bags for all the kids,Kevin and Kieran Murphy sponsored a fruit hamper, vouchers were given by Faha Court,Pat Sheahan Killorglin Golf Club, Kerry Petroleum and Derry Ahearn Sportsworld Killarney.
