Rd 1. Listry V Kenmare.
This East Kerry league Div 2 game played in Listry on Sunday last ended in a draw 11 points each. It was certainly a game of two half’s as a strong wind had a big influence on the game. Even though playing against the wind Listry were first to score with a Derry Ahern point from a free, but then Kenmare took full advantage of the elements to score 4 point without reply with 3 of these coming from Paul O Connor. Listry eventually worked the ball into the Kenmare half and got points from John Foley and Derry Ahern to leave it Kenmare 0-5 to Listry 0-3 after 15 minutes. Listry had a chance of a goal during this period but a great save from the Kenmare keeper kept them at bay. Kenmare again took control for the last 10 minutes of this half scoring 4 points without reply, with 3 of these coming from Mark Crowley, to leave the half time score Kenmare 0-9 to Listry 0-3. Listry with the aid of the strong wind started the second half in superb fashion and had 4 points (Derry Ahern, Paul O Donoghue, Garry O Sullivan and Damien Clifford) on the board after 8 minutes to reduce the Kenmare lead to 2 points. A heavy shower of rain at this time brought the game to a slow pace and Kenmare through their centre forward scored a point to extend their lead. However Listry with points from Gary O Sullivan and a superb free from Jimmy O Leary levelled matters with 8 minutes left. Kenmare again took the lead with a Paul O Connor point but with time running out Jimmy O Leary, again from a long range free, levelled matters and this is how it ended Listry 0-11 to Kenmare 0-11. Listry with a win over Fossa and drawing with Firies and Kenmare have qualified for the Final where they will play Fossa who defeated Firies also on Sunday.
