Legion 2-8 Listry 1-6.
Listry started life in Div 2 of the county league with an away game to Legion in Direen. Legion are one of the favourites to top this division and return to div 1 and as such Listry were expected to be easily defeated but it was Listry who were disappointed with the result of this game as they matched their opponents all the way and in fact Legion did not lead this game until the 43rd minute. Listry were first to score from a Sean Lehane free after 4 minutes. Listry dominated the game for the first 12 minute but failed to take advantage of the possession they had and after 15 min the sides were level. Entering the final stages of the first half the sides exchanged points before a Danny Wrenn point put Listry in front and with the last action of the first half a Damien Clifford free was flicked to the legion net by Derry Ahern to leave the half time score Listry 1-4 legion 0-3. Legion started the second half in much better form and the pressure paid off inside the 3rd minute when corner forward Tom Moriarty finished a move to the Listry net to reduce the lead to the minimum. The sides were level 3 mins later and legion took the lead for the first time after 43 minutes. Listry gradually came more into the game as Garry O Sullivan continued to dominate the game from midfield but they were unable to get the score board moving to any degree and soon paid the price when Legion’s Tom Moriarty scored his and Legion’s second goal. Some more pressure from Listry failed to narrow the margin and Legion ran out winners 2-8 to 1-6. Listry can feel very happy with this display but at this level they have to convert possession to the score board.
