Listry B played Laune Rangers C in Cloon on Saturday 26th March 2022. This was the first game in Div.1 of the new Co.Junior Development league. The game was played in beautiful weather, on a beautiful pitch with a tricky cross field breeze.
Listry fielded a mix of young, returning footballers and experienced players, coming together for the first time.
Listry started well aginst a young lively Laune Rangers team . After a very entertaining first half Listry led by a point 7 to 6. Gearóid Murphy kicked 4 points from play in the first half. Anthony Sweeney kicked 2(1F) and Jack Walsh kicked 1. Laune Rangers kicked 2 from play and 4 frees. Listry again started the second half well with points from Stephen Brosnan and Jack Walsh. Laune Rangers were improving all the time and a lucky goal gave them a lift. Listry ,after terrific work rate started to tire and the Laune Rangers substitutes contributed some great points. Anthony Sweeney kept us in touch with 2 great scores from frees. Laune Rangers got a well worked second goal and the contest was over. Listry finished strong with a well taken goal from Paudie Horgan and Daire Murphy kicked a great point. The final score was Laune Rangers 2-14 Listry 1- 12 . A very enjoyable ,sporting game and referee Tom Corbett was excellent.
Listry team was (age given when appropriate) 1. Kevin Courtney, had a great game in goal.2.Kieran Murphy, solid as always.3. Joe Clifford Ballymalis 19 an outstanding performance from Joe ,a powerful young man.4 John Foley,didn’t put a foot wrong, replaced by Mike Quirke when the batteries ran out. Mike Quirke will never lose it.5. Paudie Horgan 22 had a great game turning over Laune Rangers attacks on numerous occasions. 6.Daire Murphy 19 a beautiful Footballer with huge potential. 7.Dylan Brennan 20 another huge man with loads of ability, 8 Stephen Brosnan ,great hands and solid as always,9 Jack Walsh 20 worked hard all day,unlucky not to score a goal after a great run,contributed 2 great points, 10 Patrick Broderick ,great to have Patrick back after 5 years, a big man who put in a great shift,ran himself into the ground, plenty of ability and will benefit hugely from his first game. Killian Broderick 20 returned after 3 years ,was a late replacement ,will be disappointed to have missed a scoring opportunity but again will be happy to get a run. 11 James O Dowd 19 worked hard all day, tracking back and linking up with the forwards to create some scores, excellent attitude by James. 12 Gearóid Murphy 22 very strong on the ball and kicked 4 wonderful points in the first half. 13 Anthony Sweeney, sweet left foot.14 Mike Buckley 20 showed a huge appetite for the game ,played well at full forward and at half forward when moved. 15 Leo Healy 18 played a great game, movement on and off the ball was fantastic and his handling was superb.
Missing a few players due to work and illness, we look forward to having everyone back for our next game ,a challenge v Spa on the 16th April. Up Listry !
